MAY 2001 NEWSLETTER

ACA ANNOUNCES ITINERARY FOR THE 2001 ANNUAL MEETING

The American Counsel Association will hold its Annual Meeting in conjunction with the American Bar Association's Annual Meeting August 4-6 in Chicago. The ACA headquarters will be the Hyatt Regency Chicago.

Our first event will be on Saturday, August 4, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. when we will host a reception at the Chicago Yacht Club, located at the foot of Monroe Street, Monroe Harbor.

On Sunday, August 5, we will host our annual President's Reception from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the ACA suite, Hyatt Regency Chicago, East Tower.

The following night, Monday, August 6, we will host our Annual Dinner Meeting at The Mid-American Club, 200 East Randolph Drive, in the Grill Room. We have a fabulous array of food, drink and music. The Annual Dinner will be the highlight of the entire ABA meeting. Our night will begin with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres at 6:30 p.m., followed by an exquisite gourmet meal. This VIP quality event is black-tie optional.

The receptions on August 4 and 5 are complimentary for all members. The Annual Dinner fare is $140 per person. Please complete the attached reservation form (click here for printable form) and return to the Secretary/Treasurer by July 20.

MEMBERS IN THE NEWS

James K. Dorsett, III, a partner with Smith, Anderson, Blount, Dorsett, Mitchell & Jernigan, L.L.P. in Raleigh, North Carolina was recently elected to the office of Vice-President North Carolina State Bar. We congratulate Jim on this outstanding achievement.

Jeffrey J. Wong was recently elected Chair of the Business Department of Cooper, White & Cooper, L.L.P. in San Francisco. Jeff will also serve on the firm's six-member Management Committee. Jeff specializes in Commercial Finance, with an emphasis in equipment finance and asset-based lending. We congratulate Jeff on this achievement.

Bruce Belding of Sausalito, California continues to thrive in his arbitration practice. He was recently appointed to the AAA's International Panel of Arbitrators, in addition to serving on its Large Complex Case Panel. Bruce has served as arbitrator in numerous complex cases in California, Texas, St. Louis and Chicago.

IN MEMORIAM

We regret to announce the recent death of Thomas G. Greaves, a long-time member of the ACA from the Hand, Arendall firm in Mobile, Alabama. Mr. Greaves was the father of ACA members Mac Greaves of Birmingham, Alabama and Thomas G. Greaves, III of Greenville, South Carolina. We extend our condolences to the Greaves family.
